Lawrence Riggs Howard

  • born October 26, 1875 in Glencoe, IL
  • 1898: received BA from Williams College
  • 1901: received BD from Union Theological Seminary
  • ordained June 7, 1901 in Providence, RI
  • 1907: higher degree from Williams College
  • served as pastor February 17, 1929 - December2,1939
  • pastored with Rev. Libby after the 1938 hurricane
  • pastored 2 churches in Medway at the same time: Village Church - 80 homes ; West Medway - 200 homes
  • resigned the Village Church March 31, 1938 to be full time pastor in West Medway
  • concerned about receiving new members
  • had many outside speaking engagements and published several articles
  • his salary was not cut during the depression , however the church took a loan for $1000 in 1933 to pay all outstanding bills. Midweek services were held in private homes to cut down on expenses.
  • married Nina Margaret Kellogg in 1901 in Glencoe, IL
  • had 2 sons: Richard Foster and Donal McGaw
  • died July 14, 1942 in Thompson, CT
